RELIEF OF SPAIN

The most importatn rivers of Spain are the following. Yhe longest river of Spain is the EBRO river, but the longest in the Iberian Peninsula is the TAJO river.

Now we will see the most important mountains in Spain. the highest mountain in Spain will be the Teide in Tenerife (Canary Islands) and the highest in the Iberian Peninsula would be the Mulhacén placed in Granada (Betic System).

Finally we will see the different islands that we have in Spain. First we have to differenciate between Balearic and Canary islands.

WHO WERE THE VISIGOTHS?

The Romans were having problems and three tribes from Germany came to the peninsula: Alans, Vandals and Suevi. The Emperor Honorius decided to call the Visigoths to help them to expulse them. They accepted and came to defeat the Vandals and the Alans, but no the Suevi.

But Visigoths liked our country so much and they decided to stay and fight against the Romans. Romans were defeated.

With the Fall of the Roman Empire, the Visigoths established their capital in Toledo


WHAT WAS AL-ANDALUS?

MAIN DATES IN THE MUSLIM CONQUEST:



MAIN INFLUENCES OF MUSLIMS IN SPAIN

FOOD: oranges, lemons, saffron, figs,...
BUILDINGS: Mezquita of Córdoba and Alhambra of Granada.
MATHS: Moors were very good at maths and astronomy.
MUSIC: They introduced the ancersors of the harp and guitar.
HYGIENE: Only in Córdoba, they built 300 public baths.
WORDS: Many words beginning with Al- come from Arabic


CHRISTIAN RECONQUEST OF SPAIN

The Reconquista is the name given to a long series of wars and battles between the Christian Kingdoms and the Muslim Moors for the control of the Iberian Peninsula. It lasted for a good portion of the Middle Ages from 722 to 1492, in total 770 years.
